Project Proposal

● 300 words

This project is about building a website to help people create content on YouTube. The website will run on a server using Ubuntu Linux and will be hosted on Amazon EC2 in the AWS Cloud. The main goal is to create a helpful online resource for people who are new to YouTube and want to learn how to start and grow a channel from scratch.

The website will include step by step instructions covering everything a beginner needs to know. This includes how to set up and customise a YouTube channel, how to plan and film videos, how to upload content, how to design thumbnails, and how to write titles and descriptions that help videos get found in YouTube search results. The website will also cover how to join the YouTube Partner Program so that creators can start earning money from their videos once they reach the required number of subscribers and watch hours.

At this stage the focus is on planning and getting the server running in the cloud. The server is hosted on Amazon EC2 using Ubuntu Linux with Apache serving the web pages and HTML and CSS making up the frontend. The server will stay live during the grading period so the proposal can be visited and checked at any time by the tutor.

The people this project is aimed at are students, young adults and anyone who wants to start making videos but does not know where to begin. The content will be presented in a simple and easy to follow way so that anyone can understand it regardless of their experience with technology or media production. As the project grows the plan is to add downloadable guides, video examples and stories from real creators, making the website a useful and long lasting resource for anyone wanting to build a presence on YouTube.

Licence Rationale

● 100 words

For this project the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence, also known as CC BY 4.0, was selected. This licence allows other people to share, copy and adapt the content on this website as long as they give proper credit to the original author.

This licence was chosen because the website is meant to be a free and open learning resource. Adding strict copyright restrictions would limit how people can use and share the information, which goes against the whole purpose of the site. The attribution condition still makes sure the author receives credit, which matters both academically and personally. CC BY 4.0 is widely used and respected in education and suits the open nature of this project well.
